Centro Espanol de West Tampa- Proposals Needed
Request for Proposals
Lease and Redevelopment of Local Landmark
Centro Español de West Tampa
2306 N. Howard Avenue
Tampa, Florida 33607
The City of Tampa is seeking proposals from qualified entities for long term lease and occupancy of the historic Centro Español de West Tampa (Centro Español) located at 2306 N. Howard Avenue between Palmetto and Cherry Streets. The building is on the National Registry of Historic Places and is designated as a Local Landmark.
The goal for the Centro Español site is to secure a tenant to occupy the building upon move out of the Tampa Museum of Art (current tenant) projected for March 1, 2010. The tenant will have the financial capacity to enter into a triple net lease and fund all its own tenant improvements. The tenant’s proposed use will also be compatible with the surrounding community and their planned building improvements will respect the building’s historic character.
Interested Parties are invited to attend a pre-proposal meeting that will be held on-site at the Centro Español on Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at 10:00a.m. Prior to the pre-proposal meeting, on-site tours of the Project will be conducted on Tuesday, September 29, 2009 between 9:00a.m. and 10:00a.m.
A City of Tampa Lease Proposal package and additional information applicable to the Project may be downloaded from the City of Tampa website at www.tampagov.net/dept_Real_ Estate or by contacting Cherie Robinson, City of Tampa Real Estate Division, Department of Growth Management & Development Services, at (813) 274-7524.
All proposals submitted must contain the following forms with all requested information provided to constitute a complete proposal package: 1) Acceptance of Basic Lease Terms Form; 2) Project Description & Qualifications Form; 3) Proposed Lease Premises Business Terms Form; 4) Proposed Business Terms for Adjacent Land Form (if applicable); 5) Financial Capacity Form.
All Proposals must be submitted in a sealed envelope no later than Friday, October 16, 2009, at 2:00p.m. to the City of Tampa Purchasing Department, 306 E. Jackson Street, 2-E, Tampa, Florida 33602. Mark the outside of the sealed envelope “RFP Lease and Redevelopment of Local Landmark: Centro Espanol de West Tampa.”
After the submittal deadline, all proposals are subject to the “Public Records Law” pursuant to applicable state law.
The City reserves the right to accept or reject any and all proposals, either in whole or in part, with or without cause, waive any informality of any proposals, cancel the request for proposals and to make the award in the best interest of the City, subject to City Council approval.

West Tampa Post Office is Staying Open For Now
I was thrilled to read in the Tampa Tribune today that the West Tampa Post Office will remain open for the time being. When I originally heard about this I couldn't believe that the most centrally located post office was in the line of fire to close. I've never been there without a line so I know it couldn't be due to lack of business. Apparently the USPS is facing a deficit of $7 billion dollars this year. Wow. I'm thankful for those who met last month to sign a petition to save it from closing.
If you'd like more information contact Kathy Steele at the Tampa Tribune at (813) 259-7652 or ksteele@tampatrib.com.
