As We Heard It

The City of Tampa should provide training and guidance to the West Tampa overlay district committee. The committee is approving some developements in West Tampa that, at best, are bad suburban designs that have no business being built among the distinctinve architecture in West Tampa. On the other hand, they are refusing to approve some innovative designs that fit in with and enhance West Tampa architecture. InTown Homes, represented by Ed Turanchik, had an efficient house with a flat roof and parapet wall that handsomely fit on the narrow lots of West Tampa. The design provides transition on lots that are residential but are next commerical structures. The overlay district would not approve the design but City Council wisely overruled the district in a 6 to 1 vote.

Mr. Manteiga is to be commended for speaking out on this matter. It's very obvious that Tampa is being rebuilt around the whims of gangsters/developers and homogenized. The beautiful old homes (not bayshore and EVERY area) are giving way to boxes lotline to lot line as lee decesare would say. Thanks for posting this. Appreciate it. You GO, Patrick !!
